Call of Mini Infinity for iOS is a third person shooters of two worlds: some matches are thrilling and incredibly fun while others are frustrating and unbalanced.

Call of Mini Infinity takes a page directly from the Halo series and puts you in a control of a soldier in a futuristic setting. Your initial soldier even resembles a small Master Chief. Unlike Halo, this is a third person shooter which can only be played through online multiplayer. There's an entertaining variety of match types to play including 4v4 deathmatch, king of the hill, and fight for cash. Unlike twitch-based or tap-on-screen shooters, Call of Mini Infinity requires a satisfying degree of skill and strategy to play.

Characters can be upgraded using cash earned from matches. This can go towards new and improved weapons, armor, and special abilities. Keeping your gear upgraded is a necessity to stay competitive at later levels.

Unfortunately Call of Mini Infinity faces serious balancing issues. This stems from a spotty matchmaking system, base camping, overpowered players who buy cheap inapp purchases, and lack of penalties for players that drop out. This leads to level 4 players playing against level 19 players or lower level players being nearly invincible because they spent some money. That's not to say that every match will be annoyingly unfair, but you'll have your fair share of frustrating moments and inapp purchases become a necessity in later levels. 

How to play

Your soldier is controlled by holding both thumbs on either side of the screen mimicking a game controller. The left side moves your soldier around while the right side is used to aim. This serves as a replacement to having actual joysticks. Shoot and reload buttons are also located on the right side. Later in the game, when more upgrades are available like turrets and grenades, corresponding buttons also appear on screen for those. The controls are responsive and work surprisingly well given that they're on a rectangular device. 

How it looks

One the strongest points of Call of Infinity Mini are the graphics. The game not only has a beautiful use of colors, but also an excellent use of tones. Shadows are cast throughout the levels adding texture without obscuring vision. Sound in the game is almost as good as any console shooter and even incorporates proximity: shots and explosions that are closer will be louder.

The Verdict: A mixed bag

When Call of Mini Infinity is good, it's brilliant. When it's bad, it's obnoxiously difficult.
